Health & Human Services

About this Program

Health and Human Services – this facet responds to the chronic health disparities that persist in our communities and result in the decreased life expectancy of African-Americans. The mission of the Health and Human Services works to promote and facilitate programs that support the maintenance of good health and the elimination of chronic health disparities in communities of color through education, health advocacy, and optimal utilization of health resources.

Key Initiatives

For the past 64 years the Memphis (TN) Chapter of the Links has endeavored to improve the quality of life for African Americans through our intentional focus on seizing and creating healthy moments. Health and Human Services achieves this goal by being a supporter and active participant in the Mark Walden Sickle Cell Walk and annual Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Walk. Our chapter has also conducted Healthy Lifestyles Workshops for the Cotillion debutantes, where activities related to nutrition, dental hygiene, behavioral risks and physical fitness are emphasized to these young girls entering womanhood.
